Drivers Training and Car Games
The knowledge of how to drive a manual now days is unheard of for this next generation of drivers. Driving a manual with out a synchromesh transmission requires a very special set of skills. Driving a car with 90 year old technology over changes in grade and over long climbs is far different in a Model A than our modern cars. Most Model A drivers leave their cars in 3rd gear for to long on a climb, which then puts stress on the engine and eventually leads to lugging and overheating.
In a previous club meeting there was a presentation and discussion of mountain driving techniques. Theory is one thing, practice is another. Ride-along instructors were assigned to those who wanted to have the benefit of the training in preparation for our 9 mile canyon activity. Needless to say those that took advantage of the training returned to home base wide-eyed and a little more confident in their driving skills. While our trainees where out learning the 3 skills in their own cars, the rest of the group of 11 Model A’s stayed behind to play car games. We would like to thank Dave and Amber Morrell for overseeing the car games. You can read the entire story in in the award winning July 2021 Motometer.
